Interview with the Continental Soldiers
May 25, 2011 03:45 PM PDT
In this episode of the Jazzy Dugout I wanted to bring you something a little bit different. For the last year or so I've been working with a crew out of Tahoe called the Continental Soldiers. We have some new music coming out, a huge show coming up and in general, there is a ton of momentum and energy behind the Soldiers currently. I figured it was time to bring them into the dugout, talk a bit about inspirations and share some Continental Soldiers music both old and new. For you locals, catch us at the Crocodile on 5/27 with Grayskul and Fly Moon Royalty. Details here - http://thecrocodile.com/index.html?page=calendar&event=7138539. Fun CS clip from last summer - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QKLkDP_aEts For all the rest, stay tuned to the Jazzy Dugout and I will update you on where you can find our tracks and tour info. For now, please keep up the e-mails and keep listening. I appreciate all the support and feedback. Also, Stay tuned for my upcoming spring mix in the next couple of weeks. And lastly, keep it funky. DJ Phil Anthony Hip Hop Inspirations pt. 1
April 25, 2011 11:31 PM PDT
One of the genres of music that continues to move me is Hip Hop. From my break dancing days in the early 80's till now - as an active DJ and and band member in The Continental Soldiers I continually find inspiration in both old and new Hip Hop. Here is a list of 20 songs that I have loved over the years. This is by no means close to a complete list but it's a start. Once again this was an on the fly mix with two 1200's and a mixer. Some vinyl and some digital but all good shit. Stay tuned for pt. 2 with The Continental Soldiers. Song\Artist 1. Minus 8 - Zero

It's been kind of a strange week. I got a ton done at work, reconnected with some old friends, spent lots of time on music and slept really well. The strange part? I barely left the house. It's funny because I'm not a shut in or anti-social by any means. It's just that it was raining all week and honestly there wasn't really anywhere else I'd rather be - things at home are good. If you have listened to some or all of my episodes you know I have pretty broad taste. One of the things I've been missing a lot lately is good House music. House is really where my roots as a DJ started and tonight it felt like time to go back. Not that I ever left House, I just put it in the corner and smiled at it once and awhile but failed to give it the attention it deserves. Lately I think that House thinks I forgot about it and left it for good. Seriously though, I forgot how good it feels to grab a pile of House tunes with zero planning and see where it goes. All that said, here is nice and shiny new little impromptu House mix that you can pre-funk to all day and ideally all weekend. There is no awkward talking, everything is mixed and flows nicely and the tracks are upbeat but not too in your face. As usual feedback is appreciated. Enjoy and have a great weekend - Phil Song\Album\Label 1. Nonicone - Swirl People - Aroma

This episode is dedicated to some of my favorite female centric funk n soul. Apologies for the poor sounding mic and especially the train wreck at 33:44 - without making excuses I will say there was major distraction happening - hopefully you don't hold it against me. Enjoy, Funk Shui Playlist - Song\Artist\Album

Another vintage house mix from the archives - deep soulful and just a little bit techy. Equal parts Chicago and West Coast inspired. Questions, comments and feedback are always appreciated. Hit me up anytime at djphilanthony@gmail.com for booking or any other inquiries. Until next time, keep it funky. Welcome to the Dirt Hill - Mid Tempo Funk/Down Tempo

My first live mic'd podcast. About 45 minutes of mid-tempo funk and yours truly stumbling over the mic while surrounded by too many buttons and moving platters. Hit me at djphilanthony@gmail.com for song info, feedback, or any questions or comments you may have. Thanks for listening. 1. 45 Took Hudson - Boca 45 - Bombonera Sounds EP

Funk'n'Soul breaks progress to big room sounds flavored by electro. Doesn't hurt that I sampled Patrick Swayze (Dalton) from Road House in the beginning - RIP my man. Somewhere In America - Deep House (2004)

Another vintage house mix from 2004. Not sure where to throw this one so gonna drop in the deep pile. This mix is deep and soulful with plenty of techy chunk. Inspirations for this mix range from Marcus Wyatt to Mark Farina to Derek Carter. The Hour Passed - Drum n Bass
December 21, 2009 01:43 PM PST
My only recorded Drum n Bass mix. This was a result of a late night, one take session in The Jazzy Dugout last winter. Here you'll find some of my favorite d n b wax. This mix is smoothed out and jazzy with some classic UK soul undertones. Breaks in the Jazzy Dugout - DJ Phil Anthony Live Mix - Funk n Soul Breaks

Project Ganas is a nonprofit that exists to benefit a small village in Costa Rica. I had the opportunity to rock this great fundraiser. This was captured during that night. This live mix is breaky, funky, housey and very Latin. For more on project ganas go here http://projectganas.org/. |

About Phil AnthonyBorn and raised in Seattle Washington. I have always been drawn to the more soulful and funky side of music. I am a true music lover that has been Djing since 97 and have had the pleasure of sharing the decks with the likes of Keoki, Donald Glaude, Richard Humpty Vision, Micro, Dj Kemal, Lawnchair Generals, Mark Farina, Jon Kelly, Wesley Holmes, Fred Everything, Rick Garcia, Bryan Lions, Doc Martin, Ursula 1000, Fort Knox 5, All Good Funk Alliance, DJ DRM, Sabo, DJ Sang-do, Danny Massure and many other inspiring characters. I recently unearthed a ton of my old mixes - all done either live or in one shot in my studio with my trusty techs and whatever mixer I had at the time. I look forward to producing some studio mixes but for now you get to enjoy all the magic and mistakes that a veteran dj can and will make when playing on the fly. Thanks for listening - comments and new friends always appreciated.
